Introduction & Guide Scope

Ranger is honestly the best class to start your Ragnarok journey in my opinion mainly because it has access to one of the most broken skills in game, in terms of farming/grinding, which is Arrow Storm. Rangers also have access to White Wing Armor set which increases Arrow Storm damage giving you amazing damage and AOE with little to no effort at all, at the games current stage.

This guide will touch upon different builds and how to grind using said builds. This will also showcase how each build shines in different situations and how to make shine even better.

Ranger Job Change

Depending on how you prepare, Ranger job quest could change from the hardest to the easiest. Ranger job change quest is divided into 3 parts: Accuracy, Trapping and Microing(?). Accuracy test is about finding the mob named ‘Poring’ out of the 8 other poring-like monsters. Trapping test is about you going through a course with plant monster and clearing them only with the traps given. Microing is about micro managing your mercenary pet(Bebe desert wolf) to kill test eggs.

Stat Breakdown

STR: Range classes mainly focus on DEX instead of STR, but STR still has its benefits since it gives you additional damage (1 DEX = 5 STR) and with proper stat allocation you can even benefit more from STR over DEX. STR also gives rangers the additional bump on weight that could possibly be an issue for some.

AGI: ASPD, ASPD, Attack Speed. AGI basically gives you ASPD and Flee which makes you hit faster and dodge better. Some builds will want more ASPD than others but having the AGI would definitely help since some skills also rely on ASPD to lessen its delay.

VIT: Survivability, VIT would really differ depending on what build you’d go for and what you plan to do with your ranger. I personally get the bare minimum and get myself that stun immunity. Also having a tad bit more survivability doesn’t hurt. ‘What is damage if you are dead.’

INT: Cast time, SP/SP Regen and damage (if trapper), INT’s effect would differ per ranger build. Trappers get the most of this since INT boost Trap damage while Wargers don’t even bother. Arrow Storm/hybrids would like some since it helps with cast time and SP/SP regen.

DEX: Damage, Range classes damage comes from DEX and most ranger builds invest in DEX. Not much needs to be said with DEX.

LUK: Warg, LUK is basically what increase your chances to proc Warg Strike and Wargers often prioritize LUK over DEX because Warg damage isn’t something you’d want to miss out. LUK not only boost proc chance, but it also gives lot of benefits and resistances. Same with STR this also boost damage (1 DEX = 3 LUK), gives Crit Rate and more.

Skill Breakdown

No Limits – Power of gods, as the skill mentioned. This gives rangers huge boost in power. Up to 250% range damage for 60 seconds. The only down time for this skill is it has a 5 mins downtime so use it wisely. Most people would only use this when needed to and some instances have its ‘proper’ time when this needs to be used.

Arrow Storm – Could possibly one of the most broken farming skills especially early game. With damage up to 1800% with a whopping 11×11 AOE only at the cost of 10 arrows and 48sp. There are also a number of items that boost damage for this skill, Big Cross Bow and White Wing Armor Set among one of them. The only downside for this skill is its downtime aka reuse delay which is around 5 seconds. BUT you can work around this and make use of that down time to lure more mobs. Since its only has reuse delay it has ZERO delay, meaning you can instantly use Camouflage or Teleport instantly upon casting.

Camouflage – A fitting name for a ranger’s version of ‘cloaking’ since its factually correct. Unlike cloaking which makes your character invisible, this just makes your transparent-Ish. This skill is also better than cloaking in some ways since the longer you are in Camouflage, the higher attack bonus you’d get since this skill gives certain amount of attack every second though capped at 10 seconds. Camo mostly shines in PVM environment since it basically works like cloaking and makes you invisible to monsters, except for Demons and Insects.

Aimed Bolt – At the current state of the game I don’t really see that much value for this skill since its currently on its ‘you need to immobilize the target before you get good’ state. I dabbled a bit on this, and I can’t make it work since you need Bragi (or probably reduced delay stuff like excelion) and -FCT stuff to make it work. If this was the reworked version where you don’t need to immobilize the target, then I’d probably switch to this. (Sorry, Aimed bolt fans)

*I’d also like to add that in using aimed bolt on ‘immobilized’ target removes the ‘immobilized’ status so you can’t really just one 1 trap/Warg bite and spam aimed bolt, you kind of have to cycle it.

Fear Breeze – Cool man’s double attack but better. Gives the ranger a chance to do 2x up to 5x damage per hit. If you pair this up with decent ASPD, this will help you dish more damage out.

Warg Strike – This works similar to Hunter/Sniper Blitz Beat but way better. Each proc with deal up to 10k or even more depending on the Weapon you have and the level of Warg Tooth. Proc rate is similar to Blitz where every 3 LUK has 1% chance. So, with 90 LUK you have a 30% chance to proc.

Warg Teeth – A basic mastery skill but adds 300 damage to Warg Strike per level. Getting this to level 10 is what makes you reach 10k+ Warg strikes.

Warg Ride – As the name suggest, this skill makes you ride your Warg to battle. Getting a value point for this skill works wonders since rangers already have wind walker. Level 1 gives you Mount move speed while Level 3 is close or similar to Guyak move speed. Warg ride also occasionally helps you get out in sticky situations since you can use Warg Strike while riding, giving you access to a pseudo relocation skill.

Warg Bite – Aside from traps, Warg Bite gives you access to immobilizing enemies from a far and with ease. Warg Bite not only immobilizes enemies, but it does damage, higher damage mods compared to Warg Strike. Downside to this skill is it has a chance to fail entirely and have terrible reuse delay.

Keen Nose – A better Detect in a way since it doesn’t require you clicking a location but detects the area around you. This also has a chance to proc Warg Bite that instantly immobilizes enemies detected with Keen Nose.

Electric Shock – One of the best traps that Rangers have access to. Immobilizing wise this works like Ankle Snare but with additional effects, it reduces SP of the enemy every second. Unlike Ankle Snare, this trap is AOE so you can basically immobilize all lured mobs with 1 trap. Personally, I love this skill for evil reasons.

Trap Research – Most rangers skip this skill, but this is very useful since it gives you the ability to use Special Alloy Trap that are very lightweight instead of using Traps, very heavy. This skill is also a very good value point early game because of that free SP.

Others – Some skills not mentioned since they’re kind of self-explanatory and some, traps especially, I don’t really have that much authority to mention them.

Build Breakdown

Since rangers have a bit of versatility, builds can be divided into: Arrow Storm/Aimed bolt, Crit Warger, Trappers. These builds could be mixed too some extent like AS/Crit Warg or Aimed bolt/Trap, just to make use of stat distribution, but could also be a purist build and just focus on one build.

Arrow storm/Aimed bolt

Generally, focus Arrow Storm/Aimed bolt, aiming for high burst damage. Stats commonly focus on DEX/INT for damage and cast time respectively.

Pros Arrow storm is by far the easiest skill to boost due to the availability of White Wing Set, Royal Bow/Big Cross Bow and more. Arrow storm is also 11×11 AoE skill which is often the go to skill to level/grind. Aimed bolt on the other hand has the potential to out damage Arrow Storm mainly because it doesn’t have skill cooldown and could be spammable with enough ACD (after cast delay).

Cons – Arrow storm unfortunately has a skill specific cooldown where you can’t reduce (as of guide creation) so you can’t really spam it. Aimed bolt however does not have skill cooldown but it currently requires rangers to root the target (Warg bite or trap).

Crit Warger

Generally, focus Warg and Critical DPS. Stats commonly focus on AGI/LUK for ASPD and Warg/Crit respectively.

Pros – Can easily mow down enemies without them getting close to you (if you have enough Crit to Crit lock the enemy). Wargs offer a lot to the table, up to 10k+ per proc and this is on top the crit damage that you can do. Crits also gets multiplied together with Fear Breeze buff that makes crit go from 1x to 2x~5x per hit.

Cons – Auto attacks in general have the downside of being a single target only. Crit Warger also needs a LOT in terms of stats to get it going since you need high stats across the board to make it viable. Expensive.

Trapper

As the name suggests, Trapper rangers use Traps skills from Sniper/Ranger to defeat the enemies. Stats commonly focus on INT/DEX since trap skills focus on these stats.

Pros – Out of the ranger builds out there, Trapper possibly have the best survivability w/c is reinforced with items that favor trappers. Traps also offer AOE damage and elemental advantages where you can make use of.

Cons – There isn’t really that many items/updates that make trapper ranger that viable since other ranger skills, arrow storm, can offer somewhat similar or even better results.

Item Breakdown

Since rangers have different build, Gears will be color coded since some items overlap and could be useful for more than one build.

General

Arrow Storm/Aimbolt

Crit Warger

Trapper

Set:

White Wing Armor Set (Armor, Garment, Shoes, Accessory)

– A somewhat easy set to get access too since the whole set cost less than 10m. Set bonus gives you 50% increase arrow storm damage, 30% range bonus and +2 ASPD. Each piece of the armor set can also be enchanted and each also has its own effect. Ex, Armor gives 2% range damage per upgrade and can be enchanted with expert archer (gives range damage also).

Black Wing Armor Set (Armor, Garment, Shoes, Accessory)

– Similar to white wing armor set, black wing is also very accessible. Set gives trappers 20% Cluster Bomb damage, 15% Max HP and 20 Perfect Dodge which helps trappers tank mobs. Like White Wing, these items could also be enchanted and set pieces have item effects by themselves.

Headgear:

Classical Feather Hat

– Generally, a great hat for all builds since it has a lot to offer, Aspd+1, Bonus ATK, Range damage and even -FCT if you can refine it high enough. This also combos with Piece of Angent Skin that gives Arrow Storm bonus damage giving you the option to break White Wing Set.

Catherina Von Blood / Vanargandr Helm / Rideword Hat

– Best to decent. These headgears are what you really aim for game and even end game. With these headgears it gives rangers access to HP/SP life steal/regen which makes it so that you can basically grind/farm with little to no item consumption.

White King Tiger Doll Hat / Tasty Strawberry HatAncient Gold Deco / Captain’s Hat / Cat Ear Beret

– Best to decent. These headgears boost your damage a LOT. WKTH gives ATK per upgrade, Strawberry Set offers 30% range and ASPD(if upgrade high enough) and so forth. Using these items might be the deciding factor of 1-HIT-KO-ing the enemies that you’d come across.

Isabella Red Ears / Enhanced Helm of Angel / Taurus Crown / Sniper Goggles

– Best to decent. ASPD headgears are generally helpful especially for Crit Wargers since you always want to have 193 ASPD to have the best damage output Warg and crit wise. These are cheapish alternatives as an upper headgear compared to other expensive damage upper headgears.

Ancient Elven Ear

– Luk+10, Mdef+10 and Perfect dodge+2. Values that don’t really matter for other builds but for Wargers this offer a lot since it boosts you proc rate for Warg Strike. A good item to have before we have access to lucky day.

Black Devil Mask / Baby Deviling / Bell Pigeon / Crimson Booster

– Slotted middle gears that are currently available where you can slot in cards of choice. First three are better where they offer all stats+1 while Crimson Booster does not, however it does pair up with Violet Halo.

Sunglasses

– Offers nothing but tells people you very rich or lucky

Mob Scarf

– Probably one of the best lower headgear that the game currently has to offer. It has a lot to offer like the combination of STR + LUK gives you damage bonus damage, Crit damage and Crit rate. AGI + VIT gives you ASPD and Max HP while, unfortunately, DEX + INT gives MATK and Cast time where rangers don’t really benefit from. This could possibly be a Crit Warger item but since mob scarf has lots to offer mi putting it in General.

Panda Balloon / Pink Angeling Balloon

– Aspd+1, All stats +1 and Mhp+200, respectively. Some builds may not really want aspd+1 but for Crit Wargers having 193 ASPD is a must.

Happy Balloon and Exp/Drop Balloons

– Most lower headgears are quite pricey so most people, including myself, would rather get Exp/Drop bonus gears since they’re quite affordable and would really be beneficial for farming/grinding since most ranger builds are often used to farm, with ease.

Armor:

White Wing Armor

– Rangers have it easy armor wise since White Wing Armor is just broken and can carry you early to end game. White Wing Armor could be enchanted with either Enchant Archer or Crit/Sharp enchants which you be used in different situations that fits the user, not to mention that White Wing Armor also gives 2% range bonus per upgrade. I personally use white wing armors as my elemental armor (since they’re kind cheap to make)

Murasaki Ito Odoshi

– Basically, a better White Wing Armor that everyone can wear. This armor offers long range and ATK bonus with upgrades but the only downside for this is it doesn’t have an item slot.

Garment:

Fallen Angel Wing

– Putting this on green but can be whatever you want it to be since FAW has enchant options that caters to users’ choice. You could either go full crit with fatal enchants or go full range with expert archer enchants.

Bravery Bag / Golden Angel Wing

– The jack of all trades garment, compared to other garment which focus on one aspect, this offers bonuses depending on stats that you have and is generally useful for rangers since it gives ASPD bonus if you have 90 AGI, range bonus if you have 90 DEX, crit bonus if you have 90 LUK w/c most rangers have anyway. Its relatively cheap compared other garments in the list.

Violet Halo

– Some rangers use Violet Halo for the range bonus it offers flat out, it doesn’t have to rely on stats for effects to take in. It is often paired with Kafra armor Set for grinding using arrow storm, so you can 1-HIT-KO mobs.

Piece of Angent Skin

– A combo garment with classical feather hat that gives 12% arrow storm damage for every 2 refine. Giving you 48%/60% if +8/10. You could potentially break white wing set and use this for arrow storm since you can cover the missing 30% range bonus from the set with Menblatt. This gives you a lot of versatility over White Wing set since you can basically free up shoes and accessory slot.

Shoes:

White Wing Boots

– Putting this on Crit colors since White Wing Boots at +9 have access to Crit/Sharp enchants that could possibly be the crit you need to crit lock enemies and possibly kill them before they even have a chance to get closer.

Hero Silverleather Boots

– Only shoes in game that offers range bonus on shoes with slot. This could easily be pair with Geffen Magic Tournament cards to either boost ATK/long range ATK/ASPD and more. Tho some people would slot it in White Wing Boots so it could also be used for Arrow Storm.

Ferlock Boots

– Has two options since there is a tradable one and an account lock one. Tradeable one has higher ASPD/AGI bonus but IMO even the account lock one is more than enough ASPD wise since it gives 10% ASPD +1 AGI at +0. I normally use this just to avoid using celermine juice to save on some supplies.

Predator Boots

– Another alternative to Ferlock boots that IMO is kinda better since it only has a level 100 level requirement compared to the level 120 of Ferlock parts. It also has slot which gives you options if ever you need crit/ASPD/damage depending on cards you have laying around.

Accessories:

Strawberry Decoration

– Set combination with Tasty Strawberry that offers a whooping 30% range damage and a few stats here and there. Probably one of the best range mods accessories currently available. The only downside is that you’re forced to use tasty strawberry as an upper headgear.

Sound Amplifier

– 50% reduction on Variable cast time. Having this makes Arrow storm / Aimed bolt cast time go from long to incredibly quick. You can even use two of these and removing cast time all together (you’d still have FCT though). Though it doesn’t really offer much aside for cast time and slot, it’s still a worthy pick especially in the early stages where you don’t have enough stats to cast AS/AB quickly.

Physical Enhancer Ring

– Gives you ATK 5% and slotted and has a number of available enchants available, ranging from ATK 6%, ASPD 10%, crit damage 16% and many more. This is probably one of the most popular accessories that the game has to offer. This could be worth with different builds that ranger has to offer since it covers a lot of ground.

Bakonawa Tattoo

– ASPD+10%, ATK 7%. Basically, a non-slotted perfect enchant ASPD version of physical enhancer ring. Quite valuable especially if you are lacking in the ASPD department and much cheaper compared to PER perfect enchant ASPD.

White Wing Brooch

– If you’re in a tight budget. Getting two of these isn’t really a bad idea since its very cheap (sub 1mil) and give dex+2 and 3% range damage. This can also be enchanted with stat+1~2, HP/SP + 100~400 and more.

Weapon:

Elven Bow [1]

– One of the cheapest bows you can get that offers a lot. Getting a 5O% damage increase when you pair it up with Elven Arrow. This can go toe to toe with other bows, but the downside is you’re locked in with elven arrows, but you can compensate it with elemental converters.

Big Cross Bow [2]

– Probably the best bow when it comes to arrow storm since it offers 5% arrow storm damage increase per upgrade. Not to mention this bow could also be enchanted but kind of quite hard to get decent enchants since failure (breaks item) rate is quite high. Downside for this bow is that SP cost also increases as the upgrade goes higher.

Gigantic Bow [1]

– Offers 40% increase range damage but reduces ASPD by 15% and hit by 5O. This could have been an entry bow that could compete with Elven, but this weapon has a level 13O requirement. Some builds could possibly benefit from 4O% range increase if you can cover the downsides (Reduce ASPD & hit). I’ve been told also that this has enchants in the futures, so this could possibly shine someday.

Royal Bow [2]

– One of the most sought-after bow the game is currently offering. Gives 12% Arrow storm bonus every 3 upgrade, Atk+1O every 2 upgrade, ASPD 10% at +9, 5% range damage at +11. With these affects you can understand why people would want to have this bow.

Thanos Bow [1]

– Life steal baby! Probably one of the best daily driver bows you can ever use due to it having HP/SP life steal. Ghost palace weapons also a lot of available enchants like ASPD, long range damage, damage monster races and more.

– Nothing KEKW
